Events Contested
Summer Nationals in Milwaukee is USA Fencing’s largest and most prestigious domestic tournament of the year. The event brings together thousands of athletes from across the country and across all ages and skill levels—from youth fencers competing in their first national championship to seasoned veterans and Division I contenders.

What the Events Mean:
Division I: The highest level of domestic fencing, featuring top-ranked athletes, including Olympians and internationally competitive fencers. Open to fencers aged 13+ who meet qualification standards.
Division IA: A competitive event for athletes not qualified for Division I. This division serves as a stepping stone to higher-level national events.
Division II: Open to athletes with a C, D, E, or U classification, this division provides strong national competition for developing fencers.
Division III: Designed for fencers with a D, E, or U classification, offering valuable national competition experience for newer or lower-ranked competitors.
Cadet: For fencers aged 17 and under (as of January 1 of the current season). A key category for young athletes developing toward Junior and Division I levels.
Junior: For fencers aged 19 and under. A competitive category that bridges the gap between Cadet and Division I, often featuring athletes with international potential.
Senior Team: Club-based team events in the Senior category, fostering collaboration, strategy, and camaraderie in a team format.
Y14 / Y12 / Y10: Youth events for fencers aged 14, 12, and 10-and-under respectively. These events serve as an exciting introduction to national-level competition for developing fencers.
Vet Age: Individual events for veteran fencers aged 40+, divided into age groups (40+, 50+, 60+, and 70+). These events offer spirited competition and strong community.
Vet Team: A team-based format for veteran fencers, combining age divisions and fostering club and regional pride.
Each event brings something unique to the tournament, showcasing the diversity and depth of the U.S. fencing community.
